Strawberry Festival 2011

Strawberry Festival

Warm sunshine greeted the 2011 Strawberry Festival in Buckhannon, WV during the third weekend in May. This particular festival is spread out and therefore difficult to get to all the attractions, especially once the traffic starts jamming up before and during the parade. If your goal is to see it all, you would probably need a bicycle.

We of course, made a photo album of the event. Here is the photo album of the Strawberry Festival.

Wesleyan College hosted several events, like the quilt show, art contest and crafts show/sale. The campus grounds are attractive, especially with the fountain spraying majestically heavenwards.

Go Bobcats!

The Upshur County Courthouse was the hub of attraction, with a Strawberry Idol contest on the steps. Several Harley Davidson motorcycles stopped at a lengthy light in front of the courthouse, and the singer changed up his lyrics to include a Harley reference: the bikers revved up their engines, actually drowning out the musician's amplifiers, and the crowd loved it!

The festival also hosted an antique car show. We hit the display field early, so all the cars had not yet arrived; nevertheless, there were some beauts!

Overall, Buckhannon is a wonderful place to visit and I'm sure an even better place to live. I was truly amazed at how friendly people are: as passersby, you don't just get the simple nod of acknowledgement, but a full blown wave and smile.
